“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement. ... get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually.” ― Abraham Joshua Heschel

Personal Statement:

I live in Tucson, Arizona and am primarily interested in Nature Photography, including wildlife, landscapes, and flowers, as well as Travel and Street photography.

I got my first camera when I was nine and entered a friend’s darkroom not long after. Throughout high school and college, I was passionate about photography and had the privilege of studying with great mentors, including Frederick Sommer and Jay Dusard. After graduation, and while creating my professional career elsewhere, however, photography was relegated to occasional snapshots on vacations and of family during holidays.

After semi-retiring three years ago, I rediscovered my passion for photography. And, it has acquired new meaning for me as an antidote to the suffering that I and so many people experience in these difficult times on our planet. After a 40-plus year professional career of struggling to improve the health of communities and organizations, I now find that bringing more beauty and “radical amazement” into my life and those around me is perhaps a more personal way of healing our world.

Thus, I strive to capture and display my visual images through the lens of Heschel’s radical amazement, discovering the beauty in everything around me. While I have been encouraged by teachers to find a niche photographic theme and perfect it, I am not drawn to one subject; rather, I revel in beautiful colors and patterns everywhere, in all things—human-made or “natural.” I hope you enjoy the beauty I have tried to capture as much as I have enjoyed co-creating it. And, I hope that it brings you a glimpse of radical amazement, peace, and joy.
